Who is the best DJ in the world?

It’s a tough question, who is the best DJ in the world? The truth is, there’s no definitive answer and that’s the beautiful thing about music – there’s so much of it across so many styles and genres that everyone has their own opinion.

DJ Mag often has a bias towards EDM DJs and big name acts who can be found playing mega sellout shows in Vegas. So it’s not surprising that Martin Garrix topped the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll for the 3 year in a row. A pretty impressive feat considering he’s still only 22 years old!!

We took a look at the Forbes list of Highest Paid DJs, and it was topped by Calvin Harris for the sixth consecutive year. It’s estimated he earned $48 million in 2018! As well as being an amazing live DJ, Harris is a prolific producer and creates some of the most well known pop songs. His track ‘One Kiss’ featuring Dua Lipa was the most played song of 2018 and he has had an astonishing 24 top 10 singles in his career.

Mixmag have their finger on the pulse when it comes to underground music and their top choice for 2018 was Objekt. Where Garrix and Harris play ‘drop-focussed 4/4’, Objekt is very different. Each set is unique. A 60 minute mix will span breakbeat, garage, jungle, acid, rave, techno, house, and everything in between. His track ‘Theme From Q’ was widely regarded as the best song of 2017 and showcases his experimental style.

It’s worth noting that of Mixmag’s list of top 20 DJs, eight of them were female, compared to just six in the top 100 of DJ Mags list! We have some fantastic female DJs on our roster capable of filling any dance floor!

We did a quick poll and asked our DJs who they thought the best DJ in the world is and there was one name that kept coming up – Carl Cox. He is one of very few DJs who is commercially successful but has the respect of underground music fans. His 16 year residency at Space Ibiza came to an end when the club closed in 2016 but Cox still headline’s festival around the world.

To book the DJs we’ve mentioned in this post you’ll need a budget ranging from £20,000-150,000! However, if you’re looking for a cheaper DJ to play the same style as your favourite DJ then you’ve come to the right place. We have over 70 DJs on our roster – whether you’re after pop, afrobeats, reggaeton, EDM, techno, house, funk, soul or the most obscure genre imaginable, we will definitely fulfil your musical requirements.
