“Radio One Favourite, Parisian Dance DJ & Producer Extraordinaire’
As a trailblazer of “nu-disco” sound, Laurent Ash aka LIFELIKE’s early productions captured the attention of DJ Falcon and Thomas Bangalter (from Daft Punk) years before the genre begun to monopolise the global indie charts. Having a record playlisted by these big names during their”Together 2002 tour” propelled Lifelike into the “French Touch” family: a group of Parisian artists including the likes of Daft Punk, Justice, Alan Braxe & Fred Falke, Air and Cassius.
With subsequent releases, BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong and Annie Mac, and DJ bibles DJ Mag and Future Music Magazine, sat up and took notice. Lifelike and his productions have variously been referred to as “a sure-fire hit on dance floors”; “walking that smooth and sexy line between nu-disco, new wave and funk”; and “a master of crafting credible dance floor beats.”
Hit records include “Discopolis”, released on Alan Braxe’s seminal label “Vulture”, which was a massive club hit internationally (selling a total of more than 100,000 copies; entering the UK Top 40 chart at #18; and reaching #1 in Belgium). Subsequent records included “So Electric” (released on Wall Of Sound), “Sequencer” (Vulture), “Love Emulator” (ComputerScience) and, more recently, “Dont Stop, featuring A-Trak” (Kitsuné).
As a remixer, record companies quickly clocked on to Lifelike’s innate talent for turning a track into a dance floor hit, and it wasn’t long before the artist was approached by artists such as Chromeo, Sia, Empire Of The Sun, Vitalic, Moby, Classixx, The Presets and Cerrone, all of whom wanted a collaboration.
Lifelike has toured all over the world and been fortunate enough to DJ alongside talent including Fred Falke, DJ Falcon, Bloody beetroots, Vitalic, Russ Chimes, Oliver, GrandMaster Flash, Madeon, Alan Braxe, Ritchie Hawtin, Steve Angello, DJ Medhi, and many others.
When LIFELIKE isn’t on tour, you’re likely to find him tucked away in his studio, running his own record label “ComputerScience”, and most recently finalising his debut full-length album “Electronic Dreams” signed to Capitol Music/Universal, featuring the likes of Chromeo, A-Trak, Oliver, Electric Youth & Audio District.
