FAQ: How far ahead of my event should I contact my DJ to discuss playlists?

Answer: Six weeks

The deposit has been paid, your chosen DJ is now confirmed and you’re starting to get excited about your party! We encourage as much communication as possible between DJ and client, but we have recently begun applying a new process which means the client will receive the DJs contact information six weeks from the date of the event.

In busy months our DJs can have 10-20 gigs to play so to ensure each client get the time and attention on their playlist they deserve, we have to put the longer term bookings on the back-burner, for now.

As soon as the booking has been confirmed we will send the DJ an internal briefing document which outlines the specifics of the event; time, date, venue etc. and gives them a rough idea of the music style they’ll be playing (i.e 90s dance classics). In the meantime, the client can begin preparing a playlist of tracks which can either be used as a guideline for the DJ, or can be exclusively what the DJ plays.

We actually find it’s important for the client to let the DJ know what music they don’t like so they don’t stray into unwanted territory!
