We interviewed Philly from Sugar & Rind party planners to find out where to go in 2023 to find someone to plan an entire party.
Who are Sugar & Rind?
We are a brand new concept in party planning conceived for those that want to organise a party at home or at work with zero hassle. The first of its kind, you can simply just click to add cocktails, marquees, canapés, waiters, wine and most importantly DJs! Then just check out and we do the rest. If clients are having a small, low-key party, they can manage the event themselves but we usually find that clients don’t want any kind of hassle on the day, so they add an Event Manager to the basket as well. Then we send someone to ensure that the party runs really smoothly for them from start to finish.
Organising an entire event must be a challenge. How do you manage everything?
With check-lists, budgets, shared google docs with our suppliers and more check-lists! Oh and a really hands-on client focussed approach because communication in any job is so important. With our bespoke events, we run regular check-in meetings with the client and provide really detailed running orders for both the client and the suppliers so nothing slips between the cracks. For our smaller, web-based jobs, the process is the same but on a lesser scale. Although no matter how small the party is, there will always be a final call and an Event Sheet for us to run through with each client so they feel fully informed, ready and above all excited about their forthcoming party!
How far in advance should I come to Sugar & Rind ahead of my event?
Literally, the earlier the better. I have a client who has just booked for July 2024 and what a dream because it means they can have the marquee they want, the caterer they choose and of course, whichever DJ they require because most people don’t behave like this! Otherwise, 4-6 months if usually fine. But that doesn’t mean we can’t do it with short notice. We can turn anything around in 3 weeks but it just means there will be less choice with suppliers.
What has been the craziest request from a client?
Well – we are just doing some very bizarre entertainment for a You Tube channel that is celebrating 10 million subscribers. So we are very much looking forward to triple-breasted go-go girls, a 4 ft sideshow act that can lift weights with his eyelids and a drag queen with a full black beard!
Some of your events have featured DJs and musicians from Storm- how often do you get requests to add a DJ?
Nearly always which is why we love to work with Storm. Because of the really broad stable of DJs available with Storm, it means we can fulfil any brief. Sometimes a client says they don’t want a DJ but we always do our best to persuade them otherwise.
